News: Beginning next month North American gamers will be able to get their hands on Sony’s PlayStation TV device for $99.99.
Sony revealed earlier today that PlayStation TV (formerly known as Vita TV) will be out in North America beginning on October 14. Sony claims that nearly 700 games will be available to play at launch with games like Killzone: Mercenary, Persona 4 Golden and classics like Metal Gear Solid. Even though the library will feature almost 700 games, Sony claims the library will keep expanding with titles such as Minecraft expected to hit at some point.
You will be able to pick up a PlayStation TV for $99.99 for the system by itself or for $139.99 if you want the bundle that includes a Dualshock 3, 8gb memory card and the Lego Movie Videogame. Additionally, there will be an exclusive bundle at Walmart that comes with everything in that bundle as well as Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, also for $139.99.
Some of the game that will be included in the lineup for PlayStation TV include:
Rayman Origins
God of War Collection
Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster
Spelunky
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Patapon
Borderlands 2
...and much more!
The PlayStation TV will play select content from previous PlayStation systems, including:
PlayStation Vita - The PS Vita titles that are compatible with PS TV can either be downloaded to the device or inserted directly into the system using a PS Vita card.
PlayStation Classics - You will be able to download classic PS One and PSP games such as Wipeout and Metal Gear Solid.
PlayStation 3 - You will be able to use PS Now on PS TV which will let you play supported titles on your tv using the internet.
PlayStation 4 - If you own a PS4 you will be able to use Remote Play to stream a remote play enabled PS4 game from your console to a PS TV over a wired internet connection. If the television in the living room is being used you can simply just use the Remote Play to send your PS4 game up to the bedroom and keep playing on PS TV.
The apparent requirement of a wired internet connection could be problematic for the PlayStation TV but what do you think? Will you pick one up on October 14? Let us know what you think below.
