News: E3 2010 reveal and a late 2010 release? Maybe so.

Intrepid blogger Raymond Padilla scoured this year's Game Developers Conference for any and all new information he could find about the DS2. And by gum, he found out a lot about Nintendo's next handheld.

Over the course of his GDC adventure, Padilla found developers willing to admit:

  • The DS2 will feature two screens that are bigger and have a better resolution than the current DS system. They are also very close together, making the combined screen gameplay of games like Contra 4 even better.

  • Like the iPhone, the DS2 will have an accelerometer. With the success of the Wii, this is a no brainer.

  • The system's innards have described as very similar to the GameCube. With the typical progression of handheld graphics (and the PSP's current computing power), this is also a no brainer.

  • Finally, several developers told Padilla that Nintendo will unveil the DS2 at this year's E3 expo and that the company is planning a late 2010 release. While I think that might be wishful thinking considering the eminent release of the DSi XL, it's an interesting rumor nonetheless.

Padilla acknowledges that some of these developers may have been just making stuff to "mess with the guy trying to dig up Nintendo information", but if even half this stuff is true, Nintendo's handheld dominance will only continue with the DS2.

    We'll have more soon.
