News: Marvel Legends has an official name.

Revealed earlier this month in Game Informer, Activision today announced Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is coming to all next-gen consoles, current generation consoles, handhelds and the PC.

This ridiculous console crossover covers the biggest crossover in Marvel gaming history. More than 20 Marvel heroes will make up the Ultimate Alliance as playable characters including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Blade, Captain America, Thor, Dr. Stranger, Ghost Rider and more. And believe it or not, the game will be based on the "main" Marvel continuity and not the "Ultimate" line.

?Marvel: Ultimate Alliance delivers a new twist on action/RPGs where players' actions and choices ultimately determine what happens to the Marvel universe,? states Will Kassoy, Vice President of Global Brand Management for Activision. ?This coupled with the game's enormous character roster will deliver an action-packed experience that comic book fans have been waiting for.?

The game will be based on the X-Men Legends engine and feature similar Action RPG action. Like the previous titles in that series, Ultimate Alliance will feature online and offline multiplayer and a myriad of upgradeable stats, weapons and superpowers.

In a new twist, players will have total freedom over what missions they accept. This, combined with which objectives players complete and how they interact with the over 140 NPCs that will populate the game will change how the storyline plays out.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is being penned by former Spider-Man scribe C.B. Cebulski and is in development at Raven Software. It's currently scheduled to ship this fall.
