News: Next-Gen and Handheld Systems: The Final Frontier.

After the fallout between Activision and Viacom we haven't seen a new Star Trek game in a while. You'd think the rights to Trek would be a license to print money, but maybe not. However, Bethesda Softworks hopes it can be again as they have announced four new Star Trek games for the PC, Xbox 360, DS and PSP.

Star Trek: Legacy for the Xbox 360 and PC will span the entire Star Trek future history with stops in the Original Series, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise. Created by Mad Doc Software (makers of Star Trek Armada II), Legacy will feature "dynamic three-dimensional battlefields" and huge multiplayer battle options.

On the smaller scale, Star Trek: Tactical Assault will be invading the DS and PSP. Tactical Assault comes from another veteran Trek developer, Quicksilver Software, the makers of Star Trek: Starfleet Command.

Tactical Assault will take strategic players through the Federation or Klingon campaigns with real-time combat, branching storylines and multiple outcomes. Head-to-head wireless combat will also be an option on both systems.

All four games are scheduled to beam down in September.

This announcement is actually part of a larger announcement with Bethesda revealing that they have purchased the exclusive rights to produce Trek games covering "the entire Star Trek series" exclusive to all consoles, handhelds, and the PC

"Being able to work with the entire universe of this beloved series is an incredibly exciting opportunity for us," said Todd Vaughn, vice president of development for Bethesda Softworks. "We have some great ideas about where we want to go with this license and having the exclusive right to develop and publish Star Trek games across all platforms ensures that every Star Trek game will be a quality game worthy of its name."

So needless to say, we'll be seeing plenty more Trek in the future. Trek video games at least.
