MechAssault

Written by John Scalzo  on February 07, 2004

News: The sequel to the best reason to own Xbox Live has been announced with a ton of new features.

MechAssault, the game that propelled the Xbox Live service to must have status, isаready to get a sequel. Microsoft has announced that Day 1 Studios is hard at work on MechAssault 2 and that it should be in stores for the holiday season.

Upping the ante like any good sequel should, MechAssault 2 will featureаfour classes of vehicles: Tanks, Vertical TakeOff and Landing craft (VTOLs), BattleArmor andаtraditional BattleMechs. BattleArmor was significantly featured as the best new way to take down your enemy. It allows you to "hijack enemy 'Mechs, climb buildings, tear through infantry squads and unleash pure devastation on enemy armor." Microsoft also said that BattleArmor players will be able to jump on VTOLs and fire from themаas a gunner.

Microsoft has also said that this time around, the single player campaign will be "significantly richer; with a deeper storyline, NPC interaction and missions delivered on the fly."

Naturally the game's online play components will be beefed up as well with Microsoft promising plenty of new modes but also assuring that "popular gameplay modes from the original" will be included as well. If the amount of new weaponry is any indication, the online modes will be like a warzone.

We'll definitely keep you posted on more as it develops.
