Days of Thunder

Written by John Scalzo  on February 02, 2010

News: A 20 year old movie gets a new video game adaptation.

Paramount Games has announced they will be bringing a game based on the 1990 Tom Cruise movie Days of Thunder to the PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this Summer. Interestingly enough, Days of Thunder received an NES adaptation during its original theatrical run. If the idea of a mostly forgotten twenty year old racing movie getting a game in 2010 doesn't have you scratching your head, it actually doesn't sound so bad.

Developed by Piranha Games (the team is also working on the MechWarrior reboot), Days of Thunder will be an arcade racer that is more than a little reminiscent of Sega's classic Daytona USA. Players will be able to race head-to-head against characters from the movie (Cole Trickle, Rowdy Burns and Russ Wheeler) in Quick Race, Time Trial, Career and Destruction Derby modes.

The game will also include 12-player online racing, real-time car damage, car customization, three different car types, Pit Stop minigames and motion control steering with the SIXAXIS on the PS3.

One thing I doubt it will include is an appearance by a virtual Tom Cruise. On the other hand, a virtual Robert Duvall would be more than welcome.

We'll have more soon.
