News: And you can use it to join the ModNation Racers beta as well.

Sony has announced that the rumors are true, a Game of the Year Edition of LittleBigPlanet will be released this year. According to the PlayStation.Blog, this special edition of LittleBigPlanet will be released on September 8 for $59.99. So what can gamers get for their $59.99?

First and foremost, they'll get the original LittleBigPlanet game. The award-winning platformer has a very dedicated following online and because of that, Sony has supplied the game with a variety of upgrade packs throughout the year. Seven of these packs, which are typically made available to download for between $5 and $10, will be included in LBP's Game of the Year Edition:

  • Metal Gear Solid Level Pack
  • Metal Gear Solid Costumes
  • Monsters Costumes
  • Monsters Pack
  • History Costumes
  • History Pack
  • Animals Costumes

The game will also include 18 bonus levels created exclusively for the Game of the Year package by the best level designers the online community has to offer. These designers were handpicked to contribute a level to the game by LBP's developer, Media Molecule.

Finally, a limited number of copies of the Game of the Year Edition will include a coupon that will grant the holder access to the ModNation Racers online beta. ModNation Racers will be released in 2010 and it is the next game being built that uses Sony's "Play. Create. Share." philosophy.

And for the cherry on top, Sony has released the first trailer for LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year Edition. Enjoy...
