Granted, originality isn't always necessary, but in the case of Quantum Redshift, people who have played games like WipeOut and F-Zero simply won't find it as appealing the second time around.

Microsoft clearly isn't hoping that Quantum Redshift will differentiate itself from the crowd of other futuristic racers; since the game is essentially what WipeOut Fusion should have been if it weren't for the game having switched development teams.
