The current incarnation of Atari has gone through several name changes over the years. It began life as GT Interactive in 1993 before being purchased by IESA in 1999 and renamed Infogrames. Starting in October 2001, Infogrames purchased the rights to the Atari name and began releasing games under the "Atari" label. Finally, in 2003 the entire company was renamed Atari Inc.
