News: But it's not a Rock Band game, coo coo kachoo.
Harmonix and Apple Corps have announced that they've reached an exclusive agreement to create a Beatles video game (which means no Beatles songs in Guitar Hero, at least for the time being). While Harmonix is the creator of Rock Band, the companies were quick to point out that this will not be Rock Band: The Beatles, but judging by comments from Ringo Starr and Olivia Harrison, it will probably be something very similar:
"It gives me great pleasure to be part of The Beatles / Apple and Harmonix / Rock Band partnership," said Ringo Starr. "The Beatles continue to evolve with the passing of time and how wonderful that The Beatles' legacy will find its natural progression into the 21st century through the computerized world we live in. Let the games commence."
"People are having so much fun playing Rock Band. Combined with The Beatles tracks, it is a great way to either listen or participate," said Olivia Harrison. "If you like the music, it doesn't take much persuasion to get you to play."
Not only are they talking about it, but all four members of the Beatles estate (Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison) were involved in the creation of the game idea and have given it their full blessing.
So what is the game? Well, according to Harmonix
"the game will be an unprecedented, experiential progression through and celebration of the music and artistry of The Beatles." So basically, as of right now we don't know anything more than that the game will be played using little plastic instruments. It's coming in 2009, but the platforms are unknown for the game I plan on calling
Meet the Beatles until something better comes along were announced.
