News: THQ readies All Star Cheer Squad for this fall.
Share N4G : News for Gamers

THQ has announced they will be publishing the first video game based on cheerleading ever this fall when they release All Star Cheer Squad for the Wii and DS.

Players will be placed in the pom poms of one year in the life of a cheerleader in All Star Cheer Squad. That means "learning new cheers, participating in practices and creating their own routines," especially if they want to reach for the brass ring and become the captain of the squad.

The game will also include "squad competitions and one-on-one cheer-offs" where players will attempt to mimic all the latest cheerleader moves with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. These moves will come courtesy of choreographer Tony G, the man responsible for Kirsten Dunst's moves in Bring It On and all its sequels.

The game will make use of the Wii Balance Board for the full cheerleading experience. Whether that experience also includes petty captains getting their comeupance in true Hollywood style remains to be seen.

Few details were released about the DS version, but THQ has said it will take place at cheerleading camp and players will compete with rival camps in a "unique storyline."

“With the explosive growth of the girls gaming market in recent years due to the continued success of Wii and DS, our ongoing goal is to stay at the cutting edge of that success by bringing a brand new property for this segment to these popular systems,” said Jim Huntley, director of global brand management, THQ. “We’re thrilled to introduce All Star Cheer Squad to the industry as a triple-a title that will get players involved in the action of what it takes to be an all star as well as make up their own unique cheer routines.”

All Star Cheer Squad is being developed by Gorilla. We'll have more soon.
