Special: We continue our weeklong look at our 52 favorite games of 2007.

From the January releases of Lost Planet, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, WoW: The Burning Crusade and Hotel Dusk all the way to the end of the year with it's flurry of fantastic games one after the other, 2007 has been an amazing year for gaming. With the first full year of the seventh-generation of gaming coming to a close, there is a lot to look forward to in 2008.

But first let's take a look back and pretend that we won't get a chance to play any of those great games that are lined up for 2008 (Step back from the ledge Smash Bros. fans). Let's pretend that the only games in 2008 we'll get to play are ones from 2007 because these are the 52 Games We'll Still Be Playing From 2007.

The Top 12

Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Platform: DS
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Cing
Release Date: January 22, 2007

"I really enjoyed Hotel Dusk. The storyline and characters are compelling in a way that many recent video games lack. Likewise, the puzzles, while on the easy side, were generally well crafted and require the player to use brains over brawn. While the sound is hardly revolutionary, the graphics have a unique style that quickly grows on you. However, no matter what I would recommend playing this quality adventure title." - David Taylor

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
Platforms: PC, Xbox 360
Publisher: Capcom
Developer: Capcom
Release Date: January 12, 2007

"Lost Planet: Extreme Condition does a few things wrong that keep it from being brilliant but overall it does so much right. I'd put it solidly in your Уshould getФ game category. The online component is a refreshing change of pace from shooters like Gears of War and Halo 2. Multiplayer is smooth and fun, what else can you ask for? Capcom should be commended for not making a Halo clone and taking some chances in design and control elements." - Jose Martin

Mass Effect
Platform: Xbox 360
Publisher: Microsoft
Developer: BioWare
Release Date: November 20, 2007

If there's one thing BioWare knows how to do, it's make epic science fiction-tinged RPGs that have a deep well of options and amazing, engaging stories. And their 2007 offering, Mass Effect, is no different. Add in a little softcore lesbian alien sexcapades and you have the makings of a game that will be talked about for years to come. So as gamers fret over the future of the Mass Effect trilogy after BioWare was purchased by EA, we should be happy to get the genre-defining sci-fi RPG we got. - John Scalzo

MLB 07: The Show
Platforms: PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP
Publisher: SCEA
Developer: Sony Studios
Release Date: November 20, 2007

"The PS3 is going through the usual post-launch woes, but if you're a baseball fan, MLB 07 The Show is just the game to get you through the lean months until the usual fall insanity. There's just so much going on, so much to do, that it'll be months before everything has been seen. If you like micromanaging every facet of a baseball franchise, do it. More interested in playing online leagues? Sony has you covered. Rather create yourself and have a Hall of Fame career, or at least try. Yep, you can do that. Combined that with the most polished baseball gameplay in the business, and this is the closest we've had to a killer app in recent months on PS3. Sure you could play 2K's game, but only on PlayStation (2, 3 or PSP) can you play the best hardball simulation around. I bet someone wishes they could redo that exclusivity contract with MLB to freeze Sony out, because they done got shown up. Again." - Adam Woolcott
