News: Konami's long-running series finally makes it to America.

Konami's "big head" baseball games (officially known as the Power Pro series) have become legendary among game players as a strictly "only in Japan" phenomenom. In fact, most gamers first became aware of the series through the import sections of game magazines like Nintendo Power and EGM. The series, which began on the Super NES in 1994, has seen over 20 console releases since and over 10 handheld titles. And now it's coming to America for the first time.

2K Games has announced they've struck a deal with Konami to bring MLB Power Pros to the PS2 and Wii this fall.

"For years, Konami's Power Pro Baseball has been Japan's number 1 baseball game, in sales and fan ratings," said Kazumi Kitaue, Chairman and CEO of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "Now, in an excellent partnership with 2K Sports, it is with great pleasure that we bring Power Pro Baseball to the North American market as MLB Power Pros, where this great sport was born."

The Power Pro series provides plenty of pick-up-and-play gameplay along with the aforementioned "big head" style for every Major League player. All 30 Major League stadiums will also be recreated in the game.

According to 2K, MLB Power Pros will feature over a dozen modes, including the series' signature modes, Season and Success:

  • In Season Mode, players become an MLB team general manager with the goal of winning the World Series by controlling all aspects of the team including training players, purchasing better equipment, making trades, and much more.

  • Success Mode combines traditional role-playing elements with baseball scenarios to create one of the most unique and compelling game modes in any sports title. This story-based mode puts the user in the role of a college baseball player with the goal of becoming a Major League player Ц gamers will train the player in numerous games while dealing with real-world situations of academics, part-time jobs, and other social situations.

We'll have more on MLB Power Pros soon.
