News: The developer hasn't given up their baby yet.

A cloud of worry swept through the gaming world after the announcement that the SOCOM series' first appearance on the PS3, SOCOM: Confrontation, would be developed by newcomers Slant Six. But fear not military shooter fans, 1UP has confirmed that Zipper is working on their own SOCOM game.

According to 1UP, SOCOM 5 (or SOCOM 4 if you don't count Combined Assault as a "numbered" entry in the SOCOM series) will include both single-player and multiplayer modes. We should also expect to see "something new" from the franchise. This likely means the game will be distributed on Blu-Ray as opposed to the downloadable nature of SOCOM: Confrontation.

A fall 2008 release date was hinted at, but as of now, nothing is official.

We'll have more on SOCOM 5 soon.
