News: Price and release date will be revealed then.
A report by Reuters this morning has revealed that Nintendo plans to announce the final price and release date of the Wii this September.
They hae also confirmed that the Wii will not be sold at a major loss to the company's bottom line. There is even the possibility the hardware will be profitable from day one, but a small loss per console is most likely.
"We can't promise we won't have even a one-yen loss, but we are not expecting an enormous loss," Nintendo President Satoru Iwata told a news conference. "It is a strange notion that a game console always leads to mounting losses in the beginning."
In comparison, the Xbox 360 is assumed to sell at a loss of $75-125 per console and business writers have estimated the PlayStation 3 will sell at a loss between 150 and 300 dollars. Sony has also gone on record by stating that the PlayStation division will lose $884 million in 2006 because of the launch of the PS3.
Wii'll have more soon.
