News: Nintendo says Wii emphasizes everyone, as in everyone hates this new name at first.
Nintendo revealed this morning that its upcoming console will officially be called Wii, replacing the long-running code-name Revolution.
The surprise announcement appeared on Nintendo's official Web site for the new system, stating that "While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer."
The announcement went on to explain that the double "ii" is supposed to represent the innovative controller and the way in which the console will be able to appeal to all types of people.
"Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii."
Wii will have more as it develops.
