News: Nintendo shoots down the obviously false rumors about it's next console. There definitely will be a successor to the GameCube.

Nintendo has decided to set the record straight after the ridiculous rumors from the Nikkei Index stated they would not develop a successor to the GameCube and instead only support their current machine with new peripherals. The rumor was said to come from an "unnamed senior executive at Nintendo" and from there people let their imagination sort out the rest of the details. A completely out of context quote from an interview president Satoru Iwata conducted months ago was used to corroborate the rumor. The whole thing was just a case of Internet hysteria and people playing the one-upmanship game that fuels all idiotic rumors. Here's what Nintendo had to say:

"Contrary to what has been reported in one Japanese publication, Nintendo is staying in the console hardware business and still plans to launch our next home console in the same timeframe as our competitors. In addition, we are working on a number of complementary technical advances that we believe may significantly enhance the gaming experience. We also continue to look for exciting ways to extend the value of the Nintendo GameCube, and will share those ideas with you in the coming months.

Specific details about other accessories or systems and their functionalities haven't yet been made public. However, we will make further information about our next console available in the near future, and we look forward to further demonstrating our record of breakthrough innovation in video game play."

When there's real news on Nintendo's next console, we'll be there.
