News: The DS goes multimedia.
Nintendo is holding another DS Press Conference in Japan and, once again, the DS is getting some fancy new stuff. If you'll recall, the last DS Press Conference in October revealed a lot of (currently Japan only) games. Today's Conference is looking more like a gadget lover's dream because Nintendo has Opera for the DS and DS TV.
Opera for the DS brings the popular Opera Internet browser to the DS and all of the web capabilities that come with it. The current plan is to sell Opera for the DS as a separate game card. Users will be able to surf the web with the stylus and an on-screen keyboard. This essentially turns the DS into a PDA-like browsing environment.
On the other hand, DS TV is a mini-tuner/antenna that plugs into the DS game card slot that can then be used to pick up digital TV signals. The programs would appear on the top screen and the touch screen would actually be used like a TV remote.
Both of these products are currently slated for a To Be Announced Japanese release. With any luck, Nintendo will announce an American release at E3.
