News: I guess PS3 vs Halo 3 is just a memory now.

Microsoft head honcho Billy Gates sat down with the guys from the technology blog Engadget recently and spilled the beans on the current status of Halo 3:

Engadget: Are we going to see Halo 3 launch around the time of the launch of the PS3?

Gates: No, I have to make sure that any speculation I did about that is -- it's up to the team when they want to ship that, and they're going to take their time to make that a super great product. So even we don't know when that will come out. That's one of many games that are just phenomenal that are in the works, but it's up to the artists to do it when they feel good about it.

If you'll remember, Gates himself initially spurred all of the PS3 vs Halo 3 talk during an interview with Time at E3. This new information seems to jive with the current rumors that Halo 3 will ship sometime in 2007 to coincide with the Halo movie.

Of course that hasn't stopped mall retailer FYE! This weekend I saw a poster in their window taunting shoppers with the tagline "Halo 3 - Coming 2006".

So to recap, we know nothing.
