Mega Man is one of the hardest working video games characters ever created, starring in game after game after game. Though he hasn’t appeared in quite as many games as superstar Mario, Mega Man has starred in more games with his multiple Mega Man games, Battle Network, and Legends. He even made a short-statured appearance in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Now, the little blue bomber is finally getting the recognition he deserves in his first compilation in commemoration of his 15th birthday.

Mega Man Anniversary Collection will bring together all of the first eight Mega Man adventures, beginning with the mediocre Mega Man and its excellent sequel Mega Man 2, all the way up to the SNES and Game Boy incarnations of the little blue android. It will also include Mega Man: The Power Battles and Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, two arcade classics that were composed only of boss fights. Although there won’t be any changes to the graphics (breathe easy, purists!) there will be an updated soundtracks for many of the older games

Anniversary Collection will also include a number of extras for Mega Man fans, making it into almost a …well a director’s cut compilation. First, exclusive to GameCube will be some interviews with the producers. There will also be a number of other extras, such as an art gallery, some original commercials, and even a history of the series.

Final Thoughts
Amid all of the compilations lately, most notably The Legend of Zelda’s two latest offers, Mega Man was an obvious choice with his plethora of great games and rather large fan base, some of which never had the chance to experience Mega Man’s origins. Even some of Mega Man’s older fans may have missed his underproduced first adventure and this will be an opportunity for his fans, young and old, to familiarize themselves with Mega Man’s rich history. Look for Mega Man Anniversary Collection at the end of August.
