First Impressions: We're gonna mess that DK up with his own bananas this time around!

Nine years ago, Nintendo released a game incorporating all of their popular characters from the Super Mario Bros. series. They put each character on a Kart and had them race around. The catch- each character was able to pick up items to use to their advantage. This odd game caught gamers' eyes with its perfect execution and extremely fun gameplay. Nintendo followed up Super Mario Kart with Mario Kart 64 and the sweet gameplay was improved. Now, with the Nintendo's new system, The Game Cube, just around the corner they have plans to bring this popular racing franchise along with it.

You will once again be able to choose your favorite to race around the many cartoony courses, which are sure to be full of fun. The game includes the many traditional characters such as Mario and Luigi as well as a few new ones. The game will also include a few new items and power ups to assist you on your path to reign supreme on the Kart tracks. It will once again also support 4-player action and you can bet on your favorite modes, such as battle mode, to return.

Rumors are that this game is once again being handled by Nintendo's in house developing team EAD, which is a good sign that it will be similar to the great gameplay found in the N64 version. From the video that was shown at E3, though it was in its extremely early stages, this game looks to be one of the games that will show off what the GC is capable of. Sporting very detailed characters and tracks, as well as some cool effects, such as bump mapping, this game is sure to be one of the prettiest games to be released next year.

Final Thoughts
While not much of this game has been shown thus far there is no doubt in my mind that it will be excellent, especially with EAD handling this great franchise. Don't get your hopes up for a quick release, Nintendo is sure to hold off on releasing this game until it is perfect, even if that means holding off until late 2002. Hopefully Nintendo will release a little more info soon as well as show off a few more movies at Space World.
