News: Some cool new features are now available on the Nintendo Switch including the ability to transfer save data to another system.
Nintendo recently released a nice update for the Switch bringing the firmware up to version 4.0. This update brings with it some nice features that gamers should enjoy such as video capture on certain games, being able to pre-purchase some games on the Nintendo eShop and more.
The new 4.0 firmware includes the following updates:
Capture video on select games
If you want to capture video all you have to do is hold down the capture during gameplay;
Up to a maximum of the previous 30 seconds will be saved in the Album. You can edit the clip and then post it to either Facebook or Twitter;
For right now this new feature only works with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS and Splatoon 2 with, hopefully, more titles being supported in the future.
New profile icons for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey
If you would like to edit the icon you see head to your My Page on the top left of the Home Menu and then go to Profile.
Transfer and save data to another system
If you need to do a transfer go to your System Settings and then Users, followed by Transfer Your User and Save Data
Pre-purchase option in Nintendo eShop
There will be certain titles where a pre-purchase option is available;
This option allows pre-load of the game to your system for quicker play when the game is released;
This feature will be more widely supported by future game releases.
Wireless Headset Support
Even though it isn’t listed in Nintendo’s official notes, you can now apparently use wireless headsets with the Switch. I tested out my PlayStation Gold Wireless headset by plugging in the USB dongle into one of the USB slots on the Switch and it was instantly recognized and it worked. Obviously your system needs to be docked for this to happen.
Those are the biggest changes with the update to firmware 4.0. If you would like to see the full list you can visit Nintendo’s support site. What do you want to see Nintendo add in the next firmware update?
