If you are a part of the preview program and have the New Xbox One Experience then you might have early access to Cortana as well. Discovered by Aussie Gamer on Youtube, you can access an early version of Cortana on your Xbox One with just a few button presses. Microsoft has stated that Cortana will be available to preview members later this year and will be publicly released in 2016 but now you can try a super early version for yourself. It doesn’t look like it has any of the gamer-centric content yet but it should receive that content as we get closer to release. I’m sure Microsoft thought that no one would discover it before they were ready to release it so they just left it there.
To access Cortana in the New Xbox One Experience you must do the following:
If you are in the main menu press left on the d-pad to bring up the guide. If you are in a game double tap the big Xbox home button on the controller to bring it up.
Go down four spaces to the Settings tab
Press left on your d-pad to go into the Settings tab
Make sure you highlight “All Settings”
From there push up five times (which will take the cursor off the screen) and then push the “A” button twice. This might launch your most recently used app/game but it should also bring up Cortana on the right side of the screen.
Assuming you do that correctly Cortana should now be up on your screen. Keep in mind that since this is super early access to this feature it is incredibly buggy. You can see from the picture below that I used my Kinect to ask what the weather was in Los Angeles and it brought it right up immediately.
I look forward to when this feature gets released and is more gamer-centric but for now it is a cool find. Is this a feature that you will use? Tell us what you think below.
