News: The Last of Us: Remastered is now available for download but it appears that PSN might not be entirely ready for it.
The Last of Us: Remastered is now available for download on the PlayStation Network. It went live at approximately 12:00 a.m. on the east coast (9:00 p.m. on the west coast). Unfortunately it didn’t take PSN long to start having problems once a bunch of people started hitting the servers at the same time to download the 43 gig game. In my personal experience I pre-ordered the digital version of The Last of Us: Remastered on PSN and it wouldn’t let me download the game once it became available. I went in to the PlayStation Store on my PS4 to download it and it wouldn’t allow me to do so. I tried repeatedly, backing in and out of the store and got nothing. Talking with some readers they couldn’t even access the PlayStation Store so I guess I got lucky in that aspect. I was able to find a workaround though that has already helped a number of people and hopefully it will help you if you are experiencing similar issues.
What you need to do is go to the web store at http://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com. Once you are there search for The Last of Us. Once it comes up be sure to check the PS4 box and then select The Last of Us: Remastered. If you have already pre-ordered the game then it will say it is free, just like it does for PS Plus games. You still need to “buy” it though so add it to your cart and then go through the checkout process. Once you do that you will see a button that says “Download to your PS4”. Click on that button and the files should immediately be sent to your PS4 and begin downloading. It should be noted that you either need to have your PS4 in standby or it needs to be turned on for this to work. If you have the PS4 completely shut off when doing this then it won’t work.
Using this method you should be able to initiate the download for The Last of Us: Remastered on PS4. It is convoluted but at least it works. It also appears that the Last of Us: Remastered is split up into multiple files. When I “bought” the game off of the PlayStation Store it said the game was 43.7 gigs but the only file I was given to download at first was 11 gigs. This probably means that as soon as the 11 gigs is downloaded I can start the game and then continue downloading, similar to the Destiny beta. This is only a guess on my part though.
