News: Sony is now offering the option to upgrade your Destiny digital pre-order to the Destiny: Digital Guardian Edition for $29.99.

”Destiny"

Destiny is coming out in a couple of months and pre-orders for the game have been available for quite a while now. One of the big new things since the current generation of consoles launched last November is the availability of digital for pretty much all games and Destiny is definitely in that group. The potential pitfall for pre-ordering digital versions of these games is the pre-ordering policies of some of these companies. Sony clearly spells out their policy in the PlayStation Store by stating, “Cancellations and Refunds are not available except where required by law.” Microsoft meanwhile doesn’t even offer the option to pre-order your digital games right now, although we have been told it is “coming soon.”

Activision and Bungie recently revealed the different versions of Destiny that will be available when the game launches on September 9. There will be both standard and collector’s editions if you want a physical copy of the game, however, there is also a special “Destiny: Digital Guardian Edition.” The standard version of Destiny will cost you $59.99 while the Digital Guardian Edition will be available for $89.99. With that being the case the question a lot of people have is what happens if they already pre-ordered the standard version of Destiny before the Digital Guardian edition was available. Sony clearly states that they don’t allow refunds so that isn’t an option.

Fortunately Sony has a solution that should make everyone happy. As you can see in the image below, if you have already pre-ordered the standard version of Destiny on PSN, you will be allowed to upgrade to the Digital Guardian Edition for $29.99. You even save a penny going that route. This is a great option that Sony is giving their customers so that people don’t get burned by an option that didn’t even exist when they placed their pre-order.

Hopefully one day Sony will allow people to cancel digital pre-orders. As they seem to do with many different things, Steam is leading the way allowing gamers to cancel their pre-orders with very little hassle and, hopefully, the big three companies will go down that route as well. It is absolutely essential that gamers feel comfortable pre-ordering from Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo and the ability to cancel your pre-order at anytime would go a long way in achieving that.

What do you think? Have you already pre-ordered Destiny on PSN? If so, will you upgrade to the Digital Guardian Edition? Leave your comments below.
