News: Ubisoft has confirmed to Gaming Target that Watch Dogs will not be participating in the PS4 pre-load program.

Watch Dogs

Watch Dogs is coming out on May 27 for both current and last gen consoles. There were quite a few people who believed that Watch Dogs was going to be the first game to take advantage of the new “pre-load” feature that Sony rolled out with PS4 firmware 1.70. That doesn’t appear to be the case however.

PlayStation’s support page once listed Watch Dogs as the first title in the preload program, however, it has since been changed to say that Destiny will be the first game. That means that if you have been waiting to preload your upcoming games, well, you are going to have to wait until later this year.

Sony listed these qualifications for a game being available for preload in the future:

  • Only titles designated as having pre-load functionality at the time of pre-order purchase can be pre-loaded.

  • Pre-loading does not grant early access to the game; it simply loads it several days prior to its release so you’re able to play it on its release date.

  • Automatic downloads must be enabled for your PS4 to pre-load your game.

  • Now rumors are a dime a dozen on the internet and to get some clarification on the matter, Gaming Target reached out to Ubisoft and we received the following statement:

“WD was never pre-loadable in our territory”

It should be noted that “our territory” is the United States as that is where Gaming Target is based. If it is not available for pre-load in the U.S. or North America though then chances are it most likely won’t be available for pre-load anywhere else. If it is though please say so in the comments below and help out your fellow gamers from other territories.

Watch Dogs will be out on May 27 for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It will arrive on the Wii U later this year. Both the digital version and the physical version will be out on the 27th so even though you can’t pre-load the game, you can still buy it on day one and download it. Which platform will you buy Watch Dogs on? Will you buy the physical or digital version? Let us know in the comments below.
