News: Ubisoft will no longer require an online pass to access Assassin’s Creed 4’s multiplayer features or “Edward’s Fleet”
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is out now on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and will be available on next gen consoles in a couple weeks. New copies of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag come with a Uplay code that you need to unlock the online multiplayer as well as a special “Edward’s Fleet” feature that is available in the single player campaign.
As soon as news spread that you needed this Uplay code to get to some of the single player content everyone freaked out and Ubisoft quickly took notice. As such Ubisoft has elminated the cost of the Uplay passport for Black Flag. This will make sure that everyone has access to the companion app, Edward’s Fleet, online multiplayer and available bonus content at no additional cost.
If you somehow have Assassin’s Creed 4 right now and don’t have a Uplay Passport code then you can download one for free on both Xbox Live and PSN. If you purchased a Uplay Passport for Black Flag you need to contact your regional Ubisoft office to discuss your options. Ubisoft had this to say about the Uplay Passport program:
“The Uplay Passport program was initiated as a means of giving customers full access and support for online multiplayer and features, along with exclusive content, bonuses and rewards. However, games today are blurring the line between offline and online, between what is “single player” and what is “multiplayer.” Based on that and on the feedback we received from you, we recognized that Passport is no longer the best approach for ensuring that all our customers have the best possible experience with all facets of our games.”
