News: And it ends on MONDAY, October 11.

The official website for NetherRealm Studios' Mortal Kombat now includes a kountdown that'll be finished at midnight (Eastern Time) on Monday, October 11.

Monday has always held a special place amongst Mortal Kombat fans as the Genesis/Super NES port of the first game was accompanied by a media blitz advertising the release date as "Mortal Monday." While the original Mortal Monday was September 13, I'm sure the idea of terminating a kountdown on Monday, October 11 was not lost on the development team.

While NetherRealm hasn't revealed what the kountdown is kounting down to, it does include a header that states "Kombat Begins In..." Rumors abound that WB Games is planning a Mortal Kombat HD Kollection for release this Christmas, and it certainly would kount as the beginning of Kombat.

Whatever it reveals, we'll have more on October 11.
