News: New IP from the newest member of EA Partners.
Sixteen years of developing exclusively for the PlayStation brand has come to an end today for Insomniac Games. The Burbank-based studio, which created Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance on PSOne, PS2 and PS3, is developing a new IP for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
While President and CEO Ted Price didn't specify any details about the new game, he did write a letter to Insomniac's loyal fans announcing that the company signed with EA Partners to publish this mystery game on the two systems.
"We've been developing games on an annual pace during the last 16 years," wrote Price, as he outlined the benefits of this relationship. "One thing that has become apparent to us though is that in order to live up to our own high standards of quality, we want to give ourselves more development time to iterate and polish our games. All future Insomniac titles will benefit from longer development cycles, which will directly benefit you, our fans."
Price continued by saying that not only will development of the new IP include PlayStation 3, but also additional projects exclusive to the Sony system are in the works. Again, he stressed the importance of additional development time for these unspecified games.
Update: There's now a video message from Ted in which goes over what was said in his written announcement.
