News: Arcade football is back.

EA Sports has announced that the blitz will be back this December when they release Madden NFL Arcade as a downloadable game on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. Similar to the big-hitting arcade style of the long gone NFL Blitz series and EA's own 3 on 3 NHL Arcade, the game will offer 5-on-5 football from developer EA Tiburon.

Madden NFL Arcade will feature a faster-paced version of football that more closely resembles the old Arena League (in addition to the no rules style of Blitz) with a 60 yard field, no field goals, no penalties and no first downs. And like a schoolyard game of pick-up, all Madden NFL Arcade games play to 30.

However, that's not to say the game won't have plenty of options. All 32 NFL teams will be available to choose, as well as options to change skill level, points to win and more. The 13 "Game Changers" options will also make the game different every time by creating an entourage of lineman to get the sack, freezing an opposing player, turning off your opponent's passing icons and more. Finally, the game will include four-player local co-op as well as online head-to-head matches.

To see the game in (Xtreme!) action, be sure to check out the first 17 screenshots.

“When you look around the office and see your whole team playing and having tons of fun with it, you know the game hit the right mark,” said marketing director Nathan Stewart. “We have diehard Madden fans who have worked on the franchise for a decade, and more casual gamers who are all playing together and enjoying it. If our productivity the past few weeks is any indication, we’ve created a game that everyone will love.”

Madden NFL Arcade will be available this December for $14.99 on the PlayStation 3 or 1200 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360.
